August 2024 - What is this craziness?

July ended with the Alexander Mountain Fire starting up.

It can be followed on PulsePoint App, Watch Duty App, and on the Alexander Mountain Fire on Facebook

Taken by the Estes Park Police Department

August 1, Estes Park still wasn't getting smoke, but on August 2, the winds shifted and the smell of smoke and the haze made it's way to Estes Park. I have to admit, the smell of a campfire or smoke is a PTSD trigger and not something good anymore.

August 8, 2024 the amazing team working the Alexander Mountain Fire posted a final briefing - Acres: 9,668 Start Date: 07/29/24 Location: Larimer County, Colorado Personnel: 294  Containment: 91%

I am so grateful for all the personnel that worked this fire. Thank you for your service.

August 8 also would have been Gabby The Tabby's 24th Birthday. I miss that little orange pumpkin.

August 9 would have been Kenny's 78th birthday. I miss you old man.

August 14-16 I made a trip to Kansas to work through some things with my mom's estate. It was a long hot trip on the 14th, hot while I was getting things taken care of on the 15th, and long hot drive while I was driving back on the 16th. 90+ degrees and humidity that's 80% or more is just to hot for me anymore. I don't know how Midwesterners stand it.

I did get a lot of things worked out so that was good. Still a lot to do and a lot of waiting as well.

On August 21, I actually finished some model horses! It's been a while, and I was pretty rusty, but they turned out nice.

On August 24, I resigned from the Estes Park Police Auxiliary. It's been a heck of a ride in seven years, but I am working on a different path while also still dealing with mom's passing and my own health stuff. ๐Ÿ˜ข

And August 31, was the 19th Annual John Denver Tribute by Cowboy Brad and the TropiCowboy band.

July 2024 - An emotional roller coaster of a month

Taken from my June blog: I had to fly back to Colorado on June 30 to take care of some issues that could be done from afar and flew back to Kansas on July 1. My cousins Tina and Teri drove from California on June 30 and made it to mom early on July 1.

The three of us stayed by mom's side until she passed on July 4, 2024 at 5:45 am Central time.

July 4th is kind of a blur. We stayed at a friend's house who was out of town, did laundry and had pizza (I had a GF one of course ๐Ÿ˜‰), sat on the porch and listened to others celebrate with fireworks.

July 5th we ran to Weston Bend State Park as I haven't been there in years.

Then to mom's house to find all of her important papers, and check on her place, talked to a friend, and then to the bank because death always causes issues with EVERYTHING!! BE PREPARED FOLKS!!! Don't leave your kids in a lurch.

Then we began the drive back to our homes. I have always traveled alone as an adult to most places, the exclusion being Longmire Days. This was a great bonding experience with my cousins. I am forever grateful for that and wish is had been under different circumstances.

We made it to Estes Park around 8 PM mountain time. They got to see my cabin and I got them a lodge room at the YMCA.

Saturday July 6 they headed home to California, and I began to go through mom's tons and tons of papers, restore my house to some kind of order, and try to grieve. I kept looking outside for my red truck as I only have the yellow one now. I lost two things and it seems silly to grieve selling a vehicle, I know she went to a great person, but there was a lot of memories in that truck.

I took Bereavement from work for July 7-13. I spent the morning of the 8th on the phone with various places. I took my neighbor lady to her appointment, and then got my mail that had been building up for two weeks.

Mom's obituary - Here

The 9th was spent much the same way as the 8th doing phone stuff to go through my mom's passing. I rearranged my storage unit, and I took BOXES of recycle to the facility.

A family member's passing is never easy with working things out, especially if they don't have all of the paperwork in place.

I have to say that the outpouring of caring from everyone has been amazing. I am so grateful to each and everyone one of you that supported me through this whether with physical help, financial help, or emotional help. I am grateful and can never repay you.

The 10th I found out that some companies' customer service is exceptional - CONSUMER CELLULAR was awesome to deal with and help close out mom's account.

HUGHESNET is a terrible $(*%)*$#%($%* company with jerks and @$$holes working for it. One of the 5 people I spoke to actually asked me how to know that my mom was dead - I gave them the link to her Obituary. Then his smarmy reply  was, "Oh I guess she is dead, sorry for your loss."

PIECE OF $HIT company - HughesNet you SUCK and so do your people.

July 11 - I did things for me. I had to get out of mom's stuff and get out of my head. I went to town and walked around, did a little shopping. Then I went and had a facial. Then I did something that totally scared me.

It seems the 11th of each month is going to be conquering a fear in my life. Last month it was the giant tubing hill at SMR this month it was paddle boarding with Chaplin Doris from the PD.

July 12 was the first time I had been back to one of my workplaces in 3 weeks. I found myself short-tempered and trying very hard not to get irritated at the slightest thing. I did get a beautiful floral arrangement from the PD.

July 14-17 I worked. There wasn't too much exciting that I recall.

July 17th I drove towards Buffalo Wyoming for Longmire Days! My blog is HERE.

On July 23, 2024 our interim Police Chief was sworn in as our Chief.

On July 27, 2024, I went to the Masonic Lodge Community Yard Sale and Pancake Breakfast.

I had a sale booth and I did make a few dollars selling my yard sale stuff ๐Ÿ˜€

Monday, July 29 11:11 am mountain time the Alexander Mountain Fire started and has everyone on edge, though it is currently not affecting Estes Park, other than a little smoke.
