Longmire Days 2019

On December 19, 2018 the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce announced Longmire Days! With a Video by Craig Johnson!

Now the long wait begins until Volunteer, Sponsor and Ticket Information comes out! 

February 21 - Q&A and Tale of Two Walts tickets went on sale!

Rudi and I did manage to get the Q&A that we wanted - YEAH!!  Longmire Days is on the Buffalo, Wyoming website - HERE

I managed to get a horseback ride ticket too! - YEAH!! This is one of my favorite things every year. 

July 12 learned that my all time fave Longmire actor - Zahn McClarnon wasn't making it this year - that's a bummer.

On July 17, I headed down to Fort Collins and picked Rudi up at the Harmony Transfer Station. We drove through Fort Collins and up Hwy 287 into Laramie. From Laramie to Casper there was some beautiful scenery. 

Of course there was the obligatory horse picture from Casper  - because it's a horse statue and it's me :) 

We spent the night in Casper - and ate at La Cocina - I have to say this was the WORST Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. It was so spicy hot and anyone that knows me knows I love spicy. 

We drove into Buffalo early Thursday morning. We ran around for a bit and I traded an Estes Park Police Dept Patch with the Buffalo Police Dept. Their patch is very cool!

We ate lunch at the Busy Bee. Then we went to the Longmire Posse Fan Meet up and then the Chamber Volunteer Meeting. Thursday evening was just spent enjoying Buffalo for the night. 

Friday it was breakfast at the Busy Bee, then working the autograph session, then lunch at the Sagewood for their excellent seafood bisque, then the Q&A. 

Missed the ball game and the Occidental Jam because - sleep was definitely needed. 

Saturday morning was the annual Pancake Breakfast, then the Parade riding on the Longmire Posse float, the autograph signing and the Fan talent show.

The talent show was a blast - all the fan talent was great - and to hear A and Leslie Martinez sing and then John Bishop with Ren Farren and Devon Martinez was an added treat. 

Sunday was the horse ride at Paradise Guest Ranch and the Volunteer Party with the actors. 

Monday morning was breakfast and the Busy Bee and headed back to Colorado (and Texas for Rudi). 

As always it was a blast to see old friends and new and to talk to the actors and just have a great weekend in Buffalo. Can't wait for 2020!! 

Playing with Pan Pastels

This year has been a great learning year for me when it comes to model horse customizing and painting. I have been in the hobby since 1985 and have always just dabbled and been on the side lines. 

This year I completed my third NaMoPaiMo and my second Model Tack Month. 

Something else I have been learning is Pan Pastels. 

I started with acrylics and then after several years went to chalk pastels then earth pigments. Now I am working in Pan Pastels and I absolutely LOVE the colors and the way things look.

I have been experimenting and completed three models so far:

So far I am really liking the results. While these may not be the best of the best I am pleased with my progress. 

Remembering Pirates of the Great Plains and American Heartland Live Show

It all started 15 years ago this month of May - the Pirate of the Great Plains.

Deb Omel, Morgan Haberman, Melissa Addison and Carra McClelland.

It was our live show traveling group. It was a fun time, many wins were had and many great shows were held.

I held American Heartland Live Show from 2007-2011. While I never won a NAN show of the year - I put on a pretty good 2 day event.

The logo for any of the Pirate Shows was the Jolly Ponoe or the Bloody Ponoe. These were designed and copyrighted by Deb Omel just for our specific use.

 

American Heartland Live was held each May starting in 2007-2011 - the 2010 show did not happen due to personal reasons.

There were several divisions with including OF Performance, CM/AR Performance, CM, AR, OF and a huge DOG class division as well as a Fantasy division.

There was a stage in the hall that I rented and each year the raffle and door prize tables were up there and they were loaded down with so many great things! It was incredible the generosity of people that donated!!

And while the class ribbons were paper they were a great design

That left room for the really great stuff - the Champs, Reserves and Overalls. 

It was fun to hold and when I look at all the pictures I think I want to hold another one again. Maybe one of the days Colorado will get to experience a Pirate Show !!

National Model Tack Month - April 2019

Beginning March 1, 2019, enter by posting ONE photo in the ENTRIES 2019 album. This photo can be of your model, your self, your supplies, etc., but the photo MUST be owned by you and must be appropriate for an all-age audience. In the photo description, include your name and a little bit about your project.

Entries will be open throughout all of March and April. (Yes, you can enter on April 29th, but 11:59 PM in your time zone on April 30th is the end date for everyone, no matter when you sign up.)

Pick a scale-model tack project that is right for you. Choose as big or small of a project as you wish, whether that is a fully-tooled saddle or a rope halter! This is 100% up to you.

Inspiration for my set

 Prep throughout March. Make trees, bits, buckles, hames, stirrups, and hardware, purchase your supplies, draw up patterns, etc.

Supplies for my project

Beginning at 00:01 AM on April 1 in your time zone, actual construction and assembly of your project can begin! Dying, cutting, tooling, stitching, embossing, gluing, etc.

So it's April 10 and I have not done a single thing on my project piece because I was traveling and I am getting ready for a live show and knew I would not get it done in time.

I did do a tack thing though - I made a halter for like the first time in 20 years!

April 15 was not just tax day but model tack day! 😁

April 16 was dyeing the tack pink day - I did not get photos 😒

April 17 was assembling the thing - OMG Stablemate buckles are so small for my little fat fingers.

April 21 - I completed my project. It is by no means Live Show Quality, but it's a great learning experience. And I had a lot of fun this time!!!

The group collage will be back! The finishers' photos will be made into an "I DID IT" collage, for bragging rights!




I hope to add the collage picture later. This has been a great experience.
