North Platte Meet Up 2026

My friend Morgan and I started meeting in North Platte, Nebraska in June of 2019. It is the half-way point between our two towns, and is about 6 hours for each of us.

We have gone in June of 2019, August of 2020 after travel restrictions lifted for Covid, May 2021, May 2022, April 2023, and then 2024 we weren't able to meet up. Both of us had work conflicts in the spring then my mom passed in July 2024 and her dad in November 2024. In 2025 we went in April and this year we choose the first weekend in May.

So April 30, I headed out with a little bit of snow on the truck and the trees.

Headed down to Loveland/Fort Collins and up I-25 to the Wyoming border. I haven't taken a picture at the welcome to Wyoming sign, do decided to do that.

Then drove into Nebraska - I didn't stop because they didn't have a cool sign.

I did a drop dowbn into Julesburg, Colorado off of I-80 to see their Visitor Center. It is part of the Pony Express Trail and has a nice statue and a lot of cool stuff around it. I picked up some pressed pennies for Morgan.

We met up in North Platte, got some dinner and ran errands for things that you don't always travel with.

On Friday, May 1, we drove to Cozad, NE to a fabric store that Morgan wanted to visit, then we went to see the Pony Express Depot Building. It was just a building with no museum. It seems to be run by the City and not a historical society so there's not much there.

So, we headed to Gothenburg, NE. The pony express depot there IS a full on Museum and well worth the visit!

Then we went next door to the Gothenburg Historical Museum. This little two story museum has a lot of history of the town and is worth a visit. I loved the handpainted buffalo robe.

While in Gothenburg, we stopped at the PD so I could trade patches - theirs has a Pony Express Rider on it!!

Then we went to the Cody Museum in North Platte NE. This is a museum/store and always worth a visit. The shop is full of fun stuff and there are museum pieces from the Cody Estate and a HUGE model train set all handmake of wood.

We tried to find the Welcome to North Platte sign at the top, but couldn't find it. We did find the BIG sign though!

Then we did some shopping and had some fun.

Then came Saturday, May 2. We drove to Kearney, NE and went to the Archway. This is such an amazing museum and shop. You actually drive under the museu, as you drive on I-80 east or west!

There are so many different exhibits of different time frames from the western expansion to modern times.

Also, not sure if you get a ticket in the mail, BUT the Archway has a radar as you drive under it, SO might want to slow it down!

In the shop, you can get a bag or a bucket and do some "panning for gold."

Sunday, May 3, was a rest day, just hanging out and sleeping and chatting.

Monday, May 4 (May the 4th be with you) was a drive home day. I came home to rain/snow mix. It was a great trip!
