My friend Morgan and I started meeting in North Platte, Nebraska in June of 2019. It is the half-way point between our two towns, and is about 6 hours for each of us.
We have gone in June of 2019, August of 2020 after travel restrictions lifted for Covid, May 2021, May 2022, April 2023, and then 2024 we weren't able to meet up. Both of us had work conflicts in the spring then my mom passed in July 2024 and her dad in November 2024. So this year was needed, because honestly chatting to friends on the phone isn't the same as seeing them in person.
This year we went Mid April. It was a lot of fun, shopping, seeing touristy attractions, and stuffing our faces.
We left Thursday, the 17th and headed to North Platte from our various towns. Got checked into our hotel, unloaded, and did a little shopping.
Friday, we drove to Kearny, NE and saw the Archway - this is AMAZING - you don't even know you are crossing over the highway because the museum/displays are AMAZING telling the history west through the Kearny area.
The gift shop was amazing and the detail in the museum from the sound effects to the design was just incredible - well worth the stop on I-80 whether you are headed east or west!
From there we headed to the Pony Express Museum in Gothenburg, NE. The building is the original station, it's not large, but it's nice to see the Pony Express History.
Then it was back to North Platte and the Fort Cody trading Post - always fun shopping and the miniature train set that is hand sculpted and runs through dioramas of old western scenes is amazing. As well as the fun stuff out front 😆
After all that, we headed to food, then a bit more shopping, before crashing for the night.
Saturday was Antiqueing day and train watching - there are a lot of walkover bridges over the train tracks and we decided to just do one - it was fun to see the different trains go through the area.
Sunday was a relax day, just enjoying the nice weather and not to hot and humid for the mountain girl 😆
Monday was head back home for each of us. We have plans for 2026 already and hope to do a few things we didn't get to in 2025.
