Favorite Artist Series - Model Horse Artist Sara Gifford

Sara and her dog Garrus

Sara Gifford is one of my favorite fantasy model horse artists. I have known her since roughly 2005-2007 but we have NEVER met in person! We chat online almost daily, but we've never managed to make it to the same model horse event!

I started following her because of my love of fantasy horses. I had done several before I saw Sara's work online, but I have to say I felt like my work was inferior to hers.

The wonderful thing about Sara, is she is a positive force and she doesn't let you talk negatively about yourself for long. She is a cheerleader to her friends and hobbyists and she is always pushing the envelope of her abilities.

Her commission books pop open every now and then or a sales piece comes to light. Her work is always so detailed and life like.

I have a few of her wonderful pieces and am always trying to get more.

Favorite Artist Series - Model Horse Artist Meghan Namaste

Meghan and her Paint mare Sofie aka Sofa

I had heard about Meghan Namaste off and on in the hobby for a while, but really didn't get a chance to know her until 2019.

I was looking for someone to share a hotel with to The Jennifer Show and we chatted and agreed it would work.

That was one of the best moments, because Meghan has become a great hobby friend and supporter.

Her Rogue River Studios offers so very out of the norm model colors and patterns as well as the everyday too. She does amazing brindles, second only to Morgan Haberman's brindle horses in my honest opinion.

Meghan's books are currently not open for commissions as she is taking time to do models for herself, but if you get the chance to own a piece by her, take it and run.

I have two pieces by her and I love them dearly!

Meghan's horses look like they could take a breath from their photos. It's always great to see what she posts next.

Favorite Artist Series - Model Tack Maker Kelly Dorman

Anartist I have not met in person, but followed for a long time, Kelly Dorman is an amazing tack maker.

Her TwinMaples Designs no longer takes commissions, but she has done an amazing amount of Model Horse tack and other items.

She works in all scales, but I have seen more of her Stablemate scale (1:32 scale) work that I have her other items.

And I do have a few items by her that have placed very well - Stablemate scale against the Traditional scale models.

I hope that Kelly gets a chance to get back to working on model stuff because her attention to detail in such small scale is amazing!

Happy 100th Birthday Grandpa

Robert Bert Campbell was born December 10, 1920.

Grandpa was a bad influence on me - my first word thanks to him was "Shit."  ๐Ÿ˜› Followed closely by horse and Poosa (we raised Appaloosa horses when I was a child).

He was always an interesting character and a hard worker. I remember most that he would be up early doing chores, come in take his nap and then go to work for eight hours of an overnight shift, come home, sleep and repeat.

He lived through the depression and always said as long as you had a roof over your head you were good.

He passed far too soon in April 1996 so I never was able to really get to know him as an adult.

I sometimes wonder if my memories of him are just overly childish happiness, but I don't recall him ever really being a grumpy old man. He threw water on me when I was being a snot and made me clean it up before my mom got home. He helped me through some hard times in my twenties before he passed and I miss his guidance.

Happy 100th Birthday Gpa. I am sorry you didn't get to see it and all the changes that happened since you were born. ๐Ÿ’—

Favorite Artist Series - Digital Artist Patricia Sobral

Patricia Sobral

Patricia Sobral is an amazingly talented digital artist. She freehand draws the art then colors it using photoshop elements and a digital drawing pad. She has posted videos of how her art is done to show that she doesn't just trace and paint a picture, she actually draws it. She also does pencil drawings and acrylic and/or oil paintings as well.

We met on Livejournal around 2002 and then moved to Deviantart. Patricia's work has only ever improved over the years and her talent is amazing. We finally met in person in 2011 when she came to where I lived in Platte City, Missouri and then again in 2013 when she came to Estes Park, Colorado.

Patricia and Melissa 2013 Colorado

She has done logos for companies, art work for actors, musicians, etc and fan art work, as well as people's pets and many other works too. Her commission books are open and if you want a nice piece of artwork, she's well worth the time and funds. You can find her at ART BY PATRICIA

Here are some of my favorite pieces that she's done:

And I have do have pieces by Patricia too.

Me with a horse in snow
