Monthly Model Horse Painting Challenge - March 2021

MARCH theme‼️

Paint a model that has a single or double dilution: Buckskin, palomino, Smokey black, cremello, perlino, smoky cream. OR if deco is more your style, paint your model pastel colors. Any medium as long as you use the pastel version of a color(pastel pink, pastel green, pastel blue, etc)

I chose to do a Breyer SM Driving Horse (trotting warmblood?) that had sculpting work by Heather Kapica and make her palomino.

I was painting her and she was doing so well. Then I went to seal her and she popped off her base and landed in the dirt ๐Ÿ˜ญ

So she went into a bath of Pine-Sol and I chose a different horse because I was frustrated with her.

This horse gave me problems too - the pan pastels and sealer lifted on his chest, but I managed to fix them. He turned out okay I think.

So another monthly challenge down!

Favorite Artist Series - Model Horse Tack Maker Rachel Mitchell

I have not met Rachel in person yet - but I hope to get to an Arizona Live show one of these days! Her Trails End Studio makes some amazing tack in all scales.

Rachel also has an Etsy shop that she posts her wares in too.

Rachel does AMAZING model horse tack in all scales! Her attention to detail is wonderful and her work is live show quality.

Her work is live show quality and well worth the wait and the funds that it costs.

I have some of her stablemate tack and hope to get a couple of stablemate western sets and maybe a classic english and western set from her one day soon!

and I do have a custom that Rachel did as well -

Bridle Tree Barn Raising Challenge - NaMoPaiMo February 2021

So I took a chance and tried to build a barn backdrop - this was a total learning experience, because I tend to be more of a painter than a builder.

I took a Breyer Box and used the back piece of it, put a heavy brace piece of card board down and then cut popsicle sticks.

It took a few days to get to the hardware store due to the cold and working, but I managed to get a nice colonial maple stain to stain the wood.

I then found some corrugated paper and used that as the "wall" while I finished staining the wood pieces.

Then I glues it all, covered it in ModPodge sealer and got some Kinetic sand for the footing.

I am sure Dorian Verdant (my NaMoPaiMo horse) likes having a barn, but he has a backdrop one now!

NaMoPaiMo - Minis Painting Minis 2021

This year Jareth and BB8 are competing again in NaMoPaiMo's Minis Painting Minis challenge.

Jareth and BB8 show their collection

Jareth saw my stablemate and wanted to paint it

BB8 has a very tiny horse

Getting some prepping done!!

Primering done! Now to just wait for February 1 to paint!!!

And it's February 1 and BB-8 and Jareth are busy at it.

Jareth has taken over the art area - poor BB8 can't get in to paint. But as of today - February 6, 2021 - Jareth has completed his model and is pleased with it.

Now with Jareth completing his model and onto ruling the Underground, BB8 is working on his!

BB8 is still working on his and I started another model to see if I could complete a second Appaloosa this month.

And finally on Saturday the 13th BB8 finished the model.

As last year, this year's Minis Painting Minis has been a fun adventure.
