Model Horse and Action Figure Monthly Art Challenge - March 2022

 The March 2022 Challenge was Meteorlogical Phenomena!

I started with a 1:32 scale plastic model that was grazing. I did not get pictures of him before I started because, I honestly forgot! haha! 

Explanation - the HORSE LATITUDES - here is the description taken from the National Ocean Service - here.

The horse latitudes are located at about 30 degrees north and south of the equator. It is common in this region of the subtropics for winds to diverge and either flow toward the poles (known as the prevailing westerlies) or toward the equator (known as the trade winds). These diverging winds are the result of an area of high pressure, which is characterized by calm winds, sunny skies, and little or no precipitation.

According to legend, the term comes from ships sailing to the New World that would often become stalled for days or even weeks when they encountered areas of high pressure and calm winds. Many of these ships carried horses to the Americas as part of their cargo. Unable to sail and resupply due to lack of wind, crews often ran out of drinking water. To conserve scarce water, sailors on these ships would sometimes throw the horses they were transporting overboard. Thus, the phrase 'horse latitudes' was born.

Little Rider Doll Making Challenge March 2022 - Let's Try this Again

So I didn't complete the 2021 challenge for the Little Rider Doll Challenge, so I decided I would try the 2022 edition. I am doing the same models that I didn't complete last year. 

 

The moved arms were as far as I was able to get last year, so my judge doll is going to, hopefully, get completed this year. 

I didn't start working on the models until March 6. I managed to get the arms sculpted and primer on the judge model. 

Then I didn't get pictures of the sculpting and adding the hair and the painting, because I just started working on him in chunks of time. 

And then I managed to complete him before the end of the month - I am so excited!! 

NaMoPaiMo - National Model Painting Month - Minis Painting Minis 2022

 It's NaMoPaiMo MinisPaintingMinis Edition 2022

This year BB-8 and BB-9e decided to partake. They are both painting Micro Mini Hambletonians from Breyer. 

D-O, Mouse Droid and Polle Porg are just along for support. They got their models primered and everything was ready to go on January 31.

On February 5, the droids were getting the first layers on their models. 

This was a picture from February 12, the droids continued to work on their projects and wanted to show off their model collection. 

The droids were pleased to make it into the official #MinisPaintingMinis photo. 

They worked hard on their models. 

And they completed their models on time! 

NaMoPaiMo - National Model Painting Month - February 2022

 

I had not planned on doing NaMoPaiMo in 2022 - because honestly - I wasn't able to complete very many challenges in 2021. 

I finally decided on a model on Saturday, January 8 and did my prepping and entry on Sunday, January 9. 

My plans are to paint a buckskin Tennessee Walking Horse mare. My reference photo is below. I plan on using Pan Pastels and acrylics. 

I am going to try using some techniques I learned on Instagram from artists Stephanie Blaylock and Brie Cunduff about using acrylics over pastels and the buckskin coloring because my previous attempts have always turned out YELLOW.

I managed to get all of my prep work done on January 31 along with the Minis Painting Minis Micro and the Unicorn for another challenge. 

 I struggled with getting layers on around work and other life things (buying a 4wd truck) and so I didn't keep a very good log of the colors I went through.

White primer. Burnt Sienna Tint, Yellow Ocher, Burnt Sienna, Italian Umber, and Black Pan Pastels. Mix of gold, raw sienna and oyster white acrylics with blending gel. Kelly green and Color shift aqua flash for the ribbons. Layers and Layers of Krylon Crystal Clear gloss, Rust-oleum Clear Matte and Liquitex gloss varnish. 

This was a shot around the Burnt Sienna Tint/Yellow Ocher with black points stage on February 11. 

Then on February 12, I started working in earnest on the model. I didn't take ANY pictures through the work. I was on a video chat with a few other hobbyists (Katy, Bethany and Tara) - we were chatting and painting and she came together in the best way. I am so pleased. I never even stopped this think that I should be taking shots of her. 

She is not perfect, but I am so much more pleased with this turn of of buckskin than one I did in 2014 that looked yellow. I am so happy I completed her this year! 

Model Horse and Action Figure Monthly Art Challenge - February 2022

 Challenge for February: HEARTS

I chose to do a Breyer Stablemate Warmblood Unicorn for this challenge.

 

It's pictured with my NaMoPaiMo horse and the 2 horses for the MinisPaintingMinis. 

I did not get pictures along the way, but I used several different things for this - tissue paper, markers, colored pencils, acrylic paints and newspaper. 

This turned into a fun experiment of things to try to put on a model horse. 

It did not turn out that great, but it was fun trying to get things on it. 

I used tissue paper, markers, acrylic paints, colored pencils, stickers, newspaper and modpodge. 

 

Model Horse and Action Figure Monthly Art Challenge - January 2022

I started this club in late 2021 to give challenges to model horse and action figure friends. 

The first challenge of 2022 started January 1. It was the theme Firsts suggested by Kelly Dorman. 

I honestly had NO idea what I was going to do until the night of Saturday, January 8, 2022. I did not even get pictures of my piece before I started. 

I prepped, customized, and painted the model and it's nest all on Sunday, January 9. It was just like keep it rolling. From start to finish, it was 6 hours of my Sunday. I did all the prep and primer and painting today. 

I am so pleased.
