Favorite Artist Series - Model Animal Artist Karla Zdroik

Karla is a talented artist and sculptor. She does some of the most amazing animal sculptures, as well as customizing model dogs, cats, horses, etc. and painting animals as well.

I have known Karla for several years online, but have never met her in person - again, one of those artists I hope to meet someday.

Here are some of her amazing pieces:

The dog was made from this cat figurine!

This is sculpted on a ROCK!

I have managed to get several pieces from Karla over the years, and I love all of them.

My favorite of course being the sculpture she did of my beloved HEARTCREST SEMINOLE WIND (aka Bria)

I have several other dogs and goodies too:

You can check out her artwork at:

Little Rider Doll Making Challenge March 2021 - A Failed Attempt

The Little Rider Doll Making Challenge invites model horse hobbyists of all abilities to create a rider, driver or handler during the month of June. The project can be of any scale.

There are no prizes. Your completed rider of handler is your reward.

Make it FUN and be kind and helpful.  Nothing is more discouraging than negative criticism. This is a safe place. Everyone starts somewhere! There are NO dumb questions.
1) Decide on your project
2) Post a pic in the "Project Album" and make a statement about what you are doing
3) when done, place a photo of your finished work in the "I did it" album.

I am doing 2 Stablemate 1:32 scale dolls - the male will be a judge and holding a clipboard and the female I hope to make into Ahsoka Tano!

And as of March 15, 2021 I have been putting off working on these because I am having an ADHD moment of they will never be good enough.

I never completed my Little Rider Doll challenge - I did get the judge's arm's moved but that is about all I did.

I think I psyched myself out and made this challenge far more challenging than it really was. I got into my head and really stressed myself out to the point I couldn't look at the two dolls and complete them.

I think instead of letting myself just go with the experience - I was watching all of the other challengers actually making clothes and doing other things and I let myself listen to that nasty voice in my head that tells me that I am not doing the right thing.

There was no rules about dressing dolls, but just completing one. I will post another blog when I complete them and I will try again next time, because I do want to complete one in a month's time under the challenge criteria.

Favorite Artist Series - Model Horse Artist Shauna McDaniel

Shauna McDaniel runs Epic Fail Studios - aka Glittertastophes by that Canadian. Like Sara Gifford, she is one of the most amazing fantasy artists.

While I have not met her in person, I have chatted to her online for some time now. She is very helpful and supportive, as well as talented. She is always willing to share her insights on customizing  and help a person out with hints, compliments, sarcasm and humor. This earned her a NaMoPaiMo Champion of the Day in February 2021.

Her fantasy models have some of the most vibrant and wonderful customizing and colors.

Breyer Classic Draft - finishwork by Shauna

I did own a piece by Shauna, but sadly had to sell it due to life circumstances a couple of years ago. I hope to be able to commission her one of these days for another piece. Check out her page and enjoy the fun things she "fails" at doing!

Monthly Model Horse Painting Challenge - March 2021

MARCH theme‼️

Paint a model that has a single or double dilution: Buckskin, palomino, Smokey black, cremello, perlino, smoky cream. OR if deco is more your style, paint your model pastel colors. Any medium as long as you use the pastel version of a color(pastel pink, pastel green, pastel blue, etc)

I chose to do a Breyer SM Driving Horse (trotting warmblood?) that had sculpting work by Heather Kapica and make her palomino.

I was painting her and she was doing so well. Then I went to seal her and she popped off her base and landed in the dirt ๐Ÿ˜ญ

So she went into a bath of Pine-Sol and I chose a different horse because I was frustrated with her.

This horse gave me problems too - the pan pastels and sealer lifted on his chest, but I managed to fix them. He turned out okay I think.

So another monthly challenge down!

Favorite Artist Series - Model Horse Tack Maker Rachel Mitchell

I have not met Rachel in person yet - but I hope to get to an Arizona Live show one of these days! Her Trails End Studio makes some amazing tack in all scales.

Rachel also has an Etsy shop that she posts her wares in too.

Rachel does AMAZING model horse tack in all scales! Her attention to detail is wonderful and her work is live show quality.

Her work is live show quality and well worth the wait and the funds that it costs.

I have some of her stablemate tack and hope to get a couple of stablemate western sets and maybe a classic english and western set from her one day soon!

and I do have a custom that Rachel did as well -
